What’s the Background of Action Learning?
Professor Reg Revans, the originator of Action Learning, developed this method in the UK during the ‘40s, working for the Coal Board.
Working in small groups, managers were asked to share their experiences and ask each other questions about what they noticed. This approach impressively increased productivity by over 30%.
He later concluded that conventional teaching methods were largely ineffective (quite an admission for a trained physicist!) saying people had to be aware of their lack of relevant knowledge and be prepared to explore the area of their ignorance with suitable questions from other people in similar positions.
Revans created this formula to explain this: L = P + Q
Where L is learning, P is programmed knowledge and Q is questioning to create insight into what people see, hear or feel.
How we make it easier for you to know whether this is for you…
Before you commit to investing in training, new tools and approaches we can help you understand more about what is involved in order for you to reach the right solution.
